POSITIONS HELD

        2011-present, Head of the Master’s Program in Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Espírito Santo.

        2010 - present, Associate Professor , Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Espírito Santo.

        2008 - 2009, Visiting assistant professor , Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Espírito Santo.

I am Márcio Ferreira Martins, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Espírito Santo. I joined Espírito Santo in 2009, before, I obtained my PhD. degree in 2008 at the University of Toulouse.  I  studied Mechanical Engineering in Belém at the most important university of the Amazon Rainforest/ Brazil - Federal University of Pará,  where I got my  degrees of MEng. and MSc. in 2003 and 2005, respectively.

My experiences are focused on the research about heat and mass transfer in reactive porous media (pyrolysis and combustion of the biomass and solid fossil fuels), with emphasis on both the fundamental research (i.e. thermal and chemical structures of the reactive fronts) and in applied research for industry (oil recovery, fixed bed reactors, etc...). Acting on the following topics:

  • the development of news experimental devices;
  • thermal analysis by TGA, DTG, DSC;
  • and gas analysis by NDIR (non dispersive infrared), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared), FID (flame ionization detector) and gas chromatography.

Also working across these areas with the development of the mathematical models and CFD simulations.

Recently, I have started my new research branch within fluid flow in porous media area, more specifically about non-thermal methods to recovery oil by fluid injection in a porous medium.
